Being a pro-life apologist, when I heard that David Daleiden was going to be speaking less than ten miles from my house, I knew I had to go hear what he had to say. David is the CEO of The Center for Medical Progress (CMP), but is now more infamously known as the man who led a team of citizen journalists on a thirty-month undercover mission “to painstakingly gather hundreds of hours of undercover footage, dozens of eye-witness testimonies, and nearly two hundred pages of primary sources”[1] to document the shocking truth that Planned Parenthood sells the body parts of aborted babies for profit. This, of course, is against the law, and could be the beginning of the downfall for the abortion giant. It truly is a modern David versus Goliath story…
(See what I did there?? wink wink).
Anyways, he was gracious enough to take a few minutes to answer the three questions that I accosted him with at the event, (much to the chagrin of the long line of people behind me waiting to take their picture with and shake the hand of this “modern-day hero”, which while true, are not my words but were simply overheard behind me as he spoke about his work…)
TPPRC: David, you’re a guy in your 20’s. Most guys your age don’t even think or care about issues like abortion, unless it affects them directly. What made you different? Why are you so passionate about the pro-life cause?
DD: “Well, I’m the child of a crisis pregnancy situation, so I always grew up with this understanding that sometimes people get pregnant and have kids in less than completely planned situations, and at the end of the day it doesn’t matter how it happened because now is always a good time to welcome a new little child into the community and the world. I actually don’t think that I am that unusual, as Millennials are the most pro-life generation ever and when people have to grapple with the reality of abortion right in front of them, overwhelmingly people are pro-life and people are against it and think that it’s a horrific human rights abuse. The one particular thing about abortion is that its kind of one of those ‘out-of-sight, out-of-mind’ issues. So, your conscience has to be shocked to force you to deal with it.
I’m also a product of the California public school system where we learned a lot about social justice and historic human rights abuses, and I always had this sense that if you had lived at that time, wouldn’t you want to be one of the people who was different? And who stood up and who said, “No, this is wrong, you don’t treat people this way.” And we are living in one of those times right now when there’s an equally grave, massive human rights injustice and we need to be those people who are going to stand up and say, “You don’t treat people this way. This isn’t right. That’s not how we treat each other.”
TPPRC: Was there ever a moment in the undercover meetings where they said something so shocking, you really had to focus to not show on the outside what you feeling on the inside? Can I ask what the most shocking thing was?
DD: There were a couple of moments, but the one that really sticks out to me was the final one, you know, the one when I thought, “I’ve seen it all, and heard it all… It can’t get any worse”, and that was during the dinner meeting with Cate Dyer, the founder and CEO of StemExpress. She was joking and laughing over dinner about shipping the entire intact head of a baby, and joking and laughing about taking the arms and legs off if somebody ordered limbs, and that was just… that was like even more perverse and depraved than anything else that we encountered for the two and a half years before that. Even with the Planned Parenthood abortion doctors, a lot of them would get like a lump in their throat, or their voice would kind of get more hoarse when they were talking about the baby parts, but with this lady, Cate Dyer from StemExpress, there was not even any remorse, just joking and laughing about it, and that was the first time I had seen that.
TPPRC: Now that this undercover sting is out there in the public, what are your plans for the future? Will you continue in this mission? Take a vacation?
DD: This, the Human Capital Project of CMP (The Center for Medical Progress) is really still ongoing. We still have unreleased videos. Some of the video is under court order, but some of it isn’t. So there are more videos to put together. We got more investigative report summaries to release. We’ve got all kinds of stuff going on. So, I’m definitely occupied with this for the foreseeable future…
As I write this, David is still facing multiple court battles and fighting for his right to reveal this important information to the world. Please keep him in prayer as he fights those who attack him – both seen and unseen – while he actually does what many of us only wish we could do for God’s many voiceless, yet incredibly precious, children.
